Most Common Moving Scam

Increases the Money Demand:  Most typical scam is increasing the unexpected price. In this case, movers and packers company will offer you a low rate of estimate in comparison with other packers and movers companies. It can be very tempting to accept the offer. When you reach your new home and ask the mover and packer where my household goods are, they start asking for more money to release your goods. They are asking for various hidden costs like toll charges etc. At the end of the day, you will pay more than you got an estimate from a professional packers and movers company.

Holds your Household Goods: -- If the hired mover is asking you to pay more than already agreed, it will threat you that your goods would not be released unless you pay the extra amount. The prime reason to hold the goods is to extract more money from the end user.

Illegal Operating Company:-- Some operating companies work without any registration. This type of movers and Packers Company may not scam you directly, but they will do it in an illegal manner.  May be they shut down their operation in middle of the work and there is no guarantee your goods will ever be delivered to your chosen location.

Fraud Insurance: -- Some illegal movers companies provide blank moving insurance and they tell customer that the entire coverage of goods would be done but a reputable company will tell that it will take only a minimal coverage. Some movers offering a complete coverage of the goods work with a sole intention to make some extra money. Instead of hiring their services, you can take insurance from a third party.

There are many ways to find out whether a moving company is a reputable one or not. If company is showing some signs of fraud, you should alert yourself. These signs are listed below.

A mover asking for a large cash deposit upfront

• You don’t receive a copy of the registration of firm

• Companies refusing to tell you their certain information like address, phone number or insurance information.

The above mentioned signs are some of the ways to avoid getting into a scam.

Company Track Record:  You should check the company track record like its business profile. You can also check various complaints registered and reviews of a company.

Get Home Estimate: You should ask the moving company to come to your home for an estimate. The potential movers will provide you a better cost estimate at home.

Ask for Documents: You should check all the documents of a company like service tax registrations and other firm registration documents.

Even there are various companies which are operating legally after checking out all its standards and previous history, there are chances that you still might become a victim. To avoid yourself from being a victim, you should take the following precautions.

Go through Charges and Rates with Caution: The interstate movers will charge you according to distance and weight of your household goods. The international movers will charge you in cubic feet and local movers will charge according to labor estimate and distance.

Find out about Claim Process: Ask the mover how to claim for the goods if they get damaged while being delivered.

It is must for you to keep the above mentioned points in mind in order to avoid falling prey to the movers and packers scam for your next move. Again you must avoid the rogue movers at any cost and hire a reputable company.
